It it also touted as a cure-all for issues such as blood pressure, circulation, acid reflux, and bone strengthening. Most of these claims remain unsupported by independent research to this day. However, there are documented health benefits of pink salt.

Pink Himalayan salt is a type of salt found in the Punjab region in Pakistan. It is a rock salt with a pink hue. Some people claim that the pink color in the salt signifies means that the salt is impure. Others claim that trace minerals give the salt this pink hue. Presently, there has been no scientific study so far confirming either claim.

Additionally, it is also great for reducing tissue swelling, reducing infection risks, and treating diarrhea.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) stated the sodium content in pink Himalayan salt is 338mg per 1/4 teaspoon. Conversely, regular salts sodium content is 581mg per 1/4 teaspoon. This disparity could be due to density differences. Pink Himalayan salt is less dense because of its coarse grind. In contrast, ground table salt is more dense and finer ground.

Pink Himalayan salt can substitute regular salt in curing meat and cooking. Some blogs claim that pink Himalayan salt enhances the flavor of meats much better. One claim is that dissolving one pound of the salt in warm water will soothe our sore muscles, enhance circulation, and remove toxins. While pink Himalayan salt can produce these benefits, the hype around it is unfounded. Other types of rock and sea salts can achieve these same benefits.
